Spitting
Feathers became a popular phrase in British Slang
in the nineties and these days often turns up in newspapers and books.

Another suggestion
is the phrase may have arisen when someone is so angry that they’re foaming at the mouth, spitting flecks, which
might be compared to feathers. However it’s improbable that two identical expressions arose with such different meanings
and perhaps those who took it to mean extreme anger made a false association with Spitting Blood? It just seemed to me to be a great name for an Après Ski Bar and the following can often
be heard in our establishment ; “A Beer please
Sweetheart, I’m Spitting Feathers!” |
